about lisa morgan
Lisa with friend and mentor Emero Gobatto
Lisa Morgan has the intensity of line work that you find in children's art when they are lost in the immediacy of what they are discovering for first time.
It is refreshing to find an artist in Maine not caught up in satisfying a market, but intent on capturing the picturesque beauty of Maine; a reminder of an unforgettable summer experience.
Lisa’s black and white sketches of rocks look anatomical and flesh like; if you touched them, they would be soft. There is a softness to the coast of Maine; the gentle fog, pine and moss understory. You see the same forms and rendering in her Nude studies.
The energy and composition of her finished works are like Japanese calligraphy.
"Zen points directly to the human heart, see into your nature and become Buddha"
Her line work leads the eye around the page. There is a balance of form; negative and positive give her compositions rest.
Lisa’ color coordination is exceptional. Colors are in harmony. Her fruits and vegetables sparkle. And then, her abstractions are even more powerful compositions of color and movement.
Influences
Lisa’s longtime friend and mentor Imero Gobbato, who died in 2010, provided her guidance and inspiration to drive talent. Imero’s work captures the magical fantasy of Maine’s coast in pointillist style, which you can see in Lisa’s work....
Direction
Lisa's current direction is to lead women in particular on sketching adventures in Midcoast Maine and further afield to Italy, France and Sweden. She has an affiliation to these countries. She has studied and lived in Italy, was introduced to the Scandinavian design sensibility from her architect father and her grandfather attended the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris sketching extensively in France and Italy.
